Halal Select Snacks Launches America's New Halal Crispy Treats

Dearborn, MI-06/1/06-Muslim owned company, Halal Select Snacks, has unveiled its new sized Halal Crispy Treats this month. The mouthwatering rice-crispy treat is expected to reach Muslim schools, grocers, supermarkets, and mosques throughout the U.S. and Canada within the next week. Following the success of the company's Halal Marshmallows, the new sized Crispy Treats hopes to generate a promising response from Muslim consumers at a low price of 59? each, or 2 for $1.

In recent years, an increasing number of Muslim mothers in America are giving greater attention to ingredients in candies. Many are concerned that their children may be eating foods that contain Haram substances, even common foods like candies that one might assume are all Halal. Some candies, such as Rice Crispy Treats and marshmallows, contain gelatin-which can be derived from any animal.

Halal Select Snacks has focused attention on the demand of the Muslim community at large by providing Halal confectionaries. Since most gelatin is made using pork and beef derivatives, popular marshmallows-based snacks have always been off-limits to American Muslim consumers.

"We try our best to serve the American Muslim community," says Ratib Habbal, company founder and CEO. Habbal said the Dearborn-based companies makes its products suitable for Muslims because every ingredient can be traced back to ensure it is Halal or vegetarian. Halal Select Snacks CEO further added that the company uses no animal fat or alcohol in products and uses fish gelatin rather than beef or pork derived gelatin in products, "making them 100% guaranteed Halal".

Habbal introduced fish gelatin products when he founded the company in 2001. After completing his Masters of Business degree and gaining sound experience in the auto-industry, he decided to follow a vision he always kept in his mind: to bring once inaccessible treats to the Muslim market. "I remember growing up in the 80's when I simply couldn't eat marshmallows because of pork gelatin," reflects Habbal. Since its establishment, Halal Select Snacks made its primary objective to make food snacks designed for Muslims who grew up in the United States. "We are a Muslim company, and our products are formulated by Muslims, for Muslims," says Habbal.

The puffed crispy treat and marshmallows are just the beginning according to Habbal as he hopes to expand the company's snack range offering. The company plans on continuing to satisfy the Muslim sweet-tooth and is expected to release a new Halal candy by the end of August 2006.
