Ratib Habbal is the founder of Halal Select Snacks, located in Dearborn, Michigan. His parents immigrated from Syria in 1972, and he grew up in Michigan most of his life. Ratib attended Wayne State University as an undergraduate student before working for a textile exporting company. Later, he joined an automotive parts company in Detroit, which exported to the Middle East. Ratib returned to Wayne State Univeristy to pursue his Masters of Business Administration Degree and successfully graduated in 2000.
In his Master’s dissertation, Ratib decided to work on a business plan to make a product that was not already available in the U.S. market. Given that he had not eaten marshmallows in a long time since finding out that they contain pork gelatin, he decided to take the next logical step—make a company that manufactures Halal Marshmallows!
In his spare time, Ratib volunteers as the head of the Outreach (Dawah) Committee at the Islamic Center of Ann Arbor.
Ratib lives in Michigan with his wife Eamann and his son Muhammad Adnan.

Halal Select Snacks recently hired Riaz Tootla to head the marketing department. As the company plans on expanding into new product lines during the Summer of 2006, they also intend on releasing many promotion deals to customers nationwide. Riaz plans on leading the marketing effort through ad campaigns and special offers. Born and raised in South Africa, he and his family moved to the United States in search of better educational opportunities. He attended International Academy and after graduating he began his undergraduate career at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is currently pursuing his Bachelors of Business Administration degree at the University of Michigan and hopes to later undertake a Masters program. |
